Time Crystal Volume 1: Illustrated Cosmic Monopole
Illustrated Cosmic Monopole is the first volume in the Time Crystal Series.
From the Author’s Preface
This is a true account of how, following a disaster in CERN on 5 April 2012, you and everyone else on Earth stopped living.
Everyone who works at CERN remembers , the day when a in the magnets of the (LHC) led to an explosive release of helium, causing huge damage which took over a year to repair.
But nobody in CERN, or anywhere else on Earth, remembers the even greater disaster which occurred on 5 April 2012, the day which would later become known as Crystal Day.
This book, and subsequent ones in the Time Crystal series, will attempt to tell as accurately as possible the true story of how the innocent scientists at CERN not only broke the LHC but also almost destroyed the whole universe. This series will also explain how the universe was ultimately fixed and why nobody on Earth remembers anything about it.
I have received an incredulous reception from all those participants to whom I have shown this book, none of whom has any recollection of these events, and I fully understand the doubts which they (and others) have raised about the authenticity of the account given here. Moreover, I have to admit that, since none of the participants can tell me what happened, I have had to fill in many of the details as best I can. I make no excuse for this: it was the only way of putting together a coherent account of these incredible and truly historic events so they would be accessible to the general reader.
Indeed, if I had not obtained the written records of some of the major participants, I too would not have believed any of it to be possible. However, I maintain that the bulk of the story gives an accurate description of the events which occurred before, during and after Crystal Day based upon the documentary evidence. How I came by these documents will be revealed in one of the later books in this series.
To help the reader get to know the people involved, I have included a list of the Principal Participants, and to aid the non-scientist I have included a Glossary and a Bibliography.

Truly bizarre, utterly unique
I’ve never read a novel quite like this before. The author takes you on an exciting adventure full of unforgettable and vivid imagery. Solidly written with each character’s personality shining through. If you find physics fascinating you will not be disappointed by the author’s keen intellect and clear understanding of this most challenging (for me anyway) scientific subject. This is not a novel I will forget anytime soon, I would highly recommend it.
Very imaginative tale
Anybody interested in a very imaginative and engrossing sci fi story needs to check this one out. I have been reading sci fi for decades and this story has elements that surprise me which is very unusual considering the number of novels and stories I have over the years.
A fascinating book
An amazing book – I literally could not put it down… and I was reading it in Acrobat! Not the easiest format but it didn’t matter, I wanted to know what happened next each time I had to leave it. I have a huge interest in The Hadron Collider so it was a foregone conclusion that I would enjoy this book and I wasn’t disappointed. A great story – one that I can not wait to read the next episode of – with very complex characters and even more complex relationships. The author manages to combine his obvious extensive knowledge of the subject with an incredible imagination. I loved it!
So what’s it about?
Time Crystal (of which this is the first volume) is perhaps the first work of fiction which takes the reader on a journey back through the whole history of the universe. The author has gone to extraordinary lengths to make this novel as accurate as possible within the constraints of writing a superb story.
The disaster was caused by a particle called a “Cosmic Monopole”, which had been wandering the Universe since the Big Bang. Its existence is fundamental to the way the Universe works. It is finally trapped by the powerful magnetic fields inside the ATLAS detector at CERN, Geneva, and begins to absorb protons from the LHC. Soon it is transformed into a black hole, and absorbs Irish school-teacher Sam and Chinese-Irish scientist Michael Zhang. Moments later, time stops everywhere in the universe except near fragments of mysterious blue crystals: Time Crystals!
Irish schoolgirl Catriona, who was visiting CERN with her step-father Sam and mother Brigit, the Irish Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, has to descend through the whole history of the universe collecting crystals in an attempt not only to restart time but to solve the mystery of her father’s death years before.
Thus begins an adventure which will see Sam’s step-daughter Catriona embark on an adventure which will take her back to the Big Bang (and beyond!) in the ultimate adventure: to save the very universe itself.
